The World Cup qualifiers are underway. Sierra Leone is getting ready to win a slot in the final lineup in the next World Cup to be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA in 2026.
Like always, it is every Sierra Leonean’s dream for our darling Leone Stars to be a part of this great world event held every four years.
Already, the qualifiers playoffs have started.
All grumbling aside, Leone Stars have started on a high note. It has a new head coach called Mohamed Kallon, our ‘Wonder Boy’.
Mohamed Kallon, like the coaches before him, knows the team has a lot to overcome. Starting with resources, organization, cooperation, and commitment from everyone in the sport industry, and especially the players.
The players are up with zest, we believe. Their admiration for Kallon, and their dream to be a part of the World Cup itself, we believe, will make them all work harder to get the desired results.
Already two training sessions have been held in earnest preparations for our first game against Guinea Bissau on 20 March and Egypt on 25 March.
Kallon knows both games are crucial in his appointment as head coach. The outcome of both matches will go to show whether he is the right man in the right place.
The Sierra Leone Football Association media boss, Ibrahim B. Kamara, reported over the weekend that, “The squad put in solid work during two intense sessions—morning and evening—with big names like Musa “Tombo” Noah Kamara, Quamie Quee, and Abu “Diaby” Dumbuya all in attendance.
“With the team fully focused, the momentum is building as Leone Stars look to make a strong statement in the upcoming fixtures.”
We don’t just want a strong statement. We want solid winnings.
We are appealing for every resource therefore to be available to the national team, and for this, we encourage the National Sports Authority, and the Sports Ministry to work hand in glove with each other, to be at the forefront in lobbying to government and sponsors towards that.
In the final analysis, the nation and every football loving fan want a good game and a good result that would take us to the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States in 2026.
But we must win our qualifier matches first. So good luck to Mohamed Kallon and the Leone Stars team.
